About Tankyu Distillery

Tankyu Distillery is a public-private craft distillery in Higashikawa, Hokkaido. We produce single malt whisky and craft gin using pristine Daisetsuzan spring water and a 168-hour two-stage fermentation process.

Founded in 2024, Tankyu Distillery is Japan's first public-private (公設民営) craft distillery, located in Higashikawa-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido. Using water from the Daisetsu Mountains — named among Japan's 100 Best Waters — we operate two iStill 2000 hybrid stills with an annual capacity of 65,000L. Our signature 168-hour two-stage fermentation (stainless steel then wooden washbacks) creates complex flavour profiles, matured in Mizunara, Sherry, and Bourbon casks. Created by the team behind the award-winning Perfume Trees Gin from Hong Kong, the distillery blends international perspective with Japanese craftsmanship.
