We are pleased to announce that our Master Distiller Blog is now online. Written by David Hsieh, master distiller at Tankyu Distillery, it shares the history of whisky, how it is made, and the present state of the trade — all from a distiller's point of view.
The inaugural article, "The Truth About Oak Casks," begins with the single vessel that decides more than half the flavour of any whisky: the oak cask. It covers oak species and cask formats, and the Spanish export ban that quietly rewrote the story of the "sherry cask." Adapted from David's Business Whisky Guide podcast, it is available in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
