Mizunara Old Fashioned Recipe — Japanese Oak Whisky Classic
Mizunara Old Fashioned showcases the sandalwood and incense character of mizunara-aged Japanese whisky — and a classic Old Fashioned is the most respectful way to drink it.
Recipe
- In a rocks glass, place 1 sugar cube (or 1 tsp sugar)
- Add 3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Add a splash of warm water or soda; muddle to dissolve
- 60ml mizunara-finished Japanese whisky (Tankyu's 2030 release recommended; for now, Suntory Yamazaki Mizunara or any premium mizunara-finished whisky works)
- Add one large ice cube
- Stir 20 times
- Express orange peel oil (essential) and a thin slice of mizunara wood (if available) over the drink
Tips
- Real mizunara whisky is rare and expensive — keep the build classic, do not over-flavor
- Avoid overly cold ice — slight dilution helps the wood notes open
- For an even more pure expression: 1 ice ball, 60ml whisky, 1 orange peel — skip the sugar and bitters
